Biography

Derek G. Weisbender is a real estate attorney with the unique perspective of a litigator. He approaches every matter as a collaboration between him and his client, and draws on his litigation experience to navigate away from potential pitfalls.

Derek is an associate in the firm's Orange County office. He focuses his practice on real estate transactions, and particularly on large-scale development and construction projects, with additional practices in purchase and sale, leasing, and finance. Derek's knowledge of real estate transactions is bolstered by his years of experience in complex real estate litigation where he represented national developers, title companies, private clients, brokers and salespersons, mortgage lenders, and national and regional banks in state and federal courts.

Further, Derek is a licensed California Real Estate Broker and Realtor, and maintains a residential real estate practice. He advises buyers, sellers, and real estate agents on high-value residential transactions, including on matters of title, disclosures, contract disputes, and other deal impediments.

Education

Derek received his B.A., cum laude, in psychology and political science from the University of California, Los Angeles, and his J.D., cum laude, from the University of San Diego School of Law, where he was admitted to the Order of the Coif and served as an Executive Editor of the San Diego Law Review. While in law school, Derek received awards for his legal research and writing, and mentored first-year law students. Derek also studied at Bond University in Australia, and the University of Oxford in England.
