Jessica Chu is an associate in our Los Angeles office practicing in the firm's Tax and Joint Ventures groups. Her practice focuses on the federal income tax consequences of real estate transactions and investments, including debt and equity restructurings, 1031 transactions and divestitures. She also advises clients on California real property and transfer tax issues. 

In addition to her tax practice, Jessica also represents real estate investors, developers and owners in structuring, negotiating and documenting complex joint ventures and business transactions.

Prior to joining Allen Matkins, Jessica was an associate in the transaction advisory services (M&A) group of a Big 4 accounting firm in Los Angeles. Jessica is proficient in Mandarin Chinese.


Jessica received her B.A. in political science and economics, with a minor in English from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 2009. In 2013, she received her J.D. and Master of Business Tax at University of Southern California. While at USC, she was the Senior Content Editor of the Southern California Interdisciplinary Law Journal and published “Filling a Nonexistent Gap: Benefit Corporations and the Myth of Shareholder Wealth Maximization,” 22 S. CAL. INTERDISC. L.J. 155 (2013). Jessica also served as an extern for the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California.
