Biography

Alexander Doherty is a legal strategist who embraces every client matter as if he was personally one of the litigants. He has successfully advocated on behalf of clients in myriad civil litigation matters including consumer fraud/17200 class actions, breach of contract, environmental toxic tort, and labor and employment. Alex has also represented clients in the financial services, healthcare, and publishing industries.

A highly-regarded legal writer, Alex holds both a Bachelor of Arts and Master’s degree in philosophy, a background that he applies to his work in preparing appellate briefs – three of which resulted in published opinions.

Alex was honored with the Western Center on Law & Poverty’s “Rock Star” Award in 2014, an award given to one private law firm attorney each year for pro bono work conducted in conjunction with the center.

Education

Alex received a B.A. in philosophy and honors curriculum from Hunter College, City University of New York, in 2001, an M.A. in philosophy from University of Kentucky in 2003 and a J.D. from University of California, Berkeley, School of Law at Boalt Hall in 2008. During law school he served as a Judicial Extern for the Honorable Marvin R. Baxter of the Supreme Court of California. He was also an extern in the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of California.
