Derek G. Weisbender is a real estate and construction associate in the firm's Orange County office.  He focuses his practice on large-scale real estate transactions, development, and construction.

Derek represents institutional developers, global technology companies, and other real estate owners in projects of all sizes and types.  He has drafted and negotiated design and construction agreements for some of the most exciting and unique projects in the country, including multiple cutting-edge developments with construction values at more than $1 billion each.  Derek also has extensive experience in negotiating, documenting, and closing complex commercial real estate acquisitions and dispositions, and leases of office, industrial, and retail properties, including lease takeover transactions, build-to-suit leases, ground leases, subleases, and junior and anchor tenant leases.

Derek's knowledge of real estate transactions is bolstered by his years of experience in complex real estate litigation where he represented national developers, contractors, title companies, private clients, brokers, mortgage lenders, and banks in state and federal courts.

In addition to his commercial real estate practice, Derek is a licensed California Real Estate Broker and Realtor, and advises buyers, sellers, and real estate agents on high-value residential transactions, including on matters of title, disclosures, contract disputes, and other deal impediments.

Derek received his B.A., cum laude, in psychology and political science from the University of California, Los Angeles, and his J.D., cum laude, from the University of San Diego School of Law where he was admitted to the Order of the Coif and served as an Executive Editor of the San Diego Law Review. Derek has received multiple awards for his legal research and writing, and also studied at Bond University in Australia, and the University of Oxford in England.
