David Cooke

We are saddened to share the news that our partner, friend, and colleague David Cooke passed away on May 16, 2024, after a valiant battle with cancer.

David was a long-time partner at Allen Matkins, the San Francisco Office Managing Partner for many years, a brilliant attorney, and a deeply thoughtful and caring contributor to the firm. He was a great friend to many of us and will be sorely missed.

David was an accomplished environmental lawyer whose reputation and accolades reflect the respect he earned from his peers and clients. His edge came from the grounding he received early in his career as a general business litigator and over 40 years of service to a broad spectrum of clients in environmental litigation, regulatory compliance, Superfund, and environmental aspects of complex real estate transactions and development. His presence at the firm, and the relationships he had built, helped us to attract a team of environmental lawyers who David has helped to mentor and thrive.

But David’s contributions extended well beyond his valued legal skills. Among those was his role as a founding director and long-term Board member and Board President of Episcopal Community Services of San Francisco, Inc., which provides shelter, housing, meals and support services for homeless and impoverished individuals and families in San Francisco. He was particularly active in the development and oversight of ECS’ innovative supportive housing programs and the search for its director.

David will be deeply missed by many, and we extend our heartfelt sympathies to his family. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in David's memory to one of the following organizations:
