The Summer Associate Program at Allen Matkins is designed to create skilled lawyers, with summer associates working side-by-side with experienced attorneys on significant client matters. Our summer associates get a hands-on education in the practice of law, while also gaining valuable insight into the firm, our clients, and our one-firm culture. Our program is designed to provide the foundation for a long and successful career at Allen Matkins.
We look for students who are creative, eager to take on responsibility, and want to work with some of the best in the industry who are as committed as you are and are equally energized by the success of your peers. Each summer associate is treated as a member of the Allen Matkins team, and is immediately integrated into the firm and our work.
Summer associates get a comprehensive picture of the firm’s work and how to be a practicing lawyer, with mentorship and guidance provided by attorneys at different experience levels across all of the firm’s practice areas. Our program provides law students with work product that resembles the workload of a junior associate. Summer associates work with our attorneys to provide legal solutions for the firm's clients contributing to a variety of substantive projects and attending hearings, depositions, client meetings and closings.
Each assignment is evaluated by the assigning attorney, who will provide real time feedback. The firm's "open door" policy allows for consistent discussions with our associates and partners regarding overall work assignment progress. Summer associates also receive a mid-summer evaluation to discuss overall progress and provide feedback on strengthening work product for the remainder of the summer. Our goal is to encourage independent thinking through in-depth assessment, which will create strong practical skills so you have a solid understanding of the kind of work available after law school.
We are committed to the professional growth and development of our summer associates. Throughout the summer we provide training opportunities in a variety of practice areas in order to develop professional skills alongside practicing attorneys. Our summer associates will be involved in client meetings and negotiations, depositions, hearings, and closings.
Summer associates are also assigned a mentor who provides guidance and serves as a “go-to” resource to assist with problem-solving throughout the summer and beyond.
We have several affinity groups at Allen Matkins, through which we are able to foster relationships and inspire change within our community and the legal profession. Summer associates are encouraged to join any of the affinity groups they identify with.
Our summer associates get to know one another and our attorneys at social events throughout the summer, ranging from barbecues to baseball games. No two summer programs are ever exactly the same. Allen Matkins aims to not only provide summer associates with an opportunity to grow their practice skills, but also to create a forum for building meaningful relationships with each other and our attorneys across all offices.
