LOS ANGELES – March 16, 2018 – In the spirit of St. Patrick's Day, law firm Allen Matkins played host to a special The Ireland Funds Leadership Series Breakfast at its Downtown Los Angeles office on March 16, 2018, led by partners Alan Hearty, Tim McDonnell and Mike Matkins. Guest speaker was Brendan Griffin T.D., Minister of State for Tourism and Sport for Ireland, who was joined by Vice Consul General of Ireland to the Western U.S. John Callaghan. Jonathan Loughran, Vice President of Development for The Ireland Funds, provided opening remarks for the event. The theme of the conversation was how St. Patrick’s Day serves as an opportunity to celebrate Ireland’s diaspora and its achievements. Attendees discussed the important role The Ireland Funds plays to endorse peace and reconciliation on the island of Ireland, including the continued diplomatic efforts in Northern Ireland, the need for greater reconciliation/integration in this challenging political climate, the Government of Ireland’s commitment to the Good Friday agreement, and the potential impact of Brexit.
"The Ireland Funds is an incredible philanthropic organization that has helped to improve the lives of so many people around the globe since its founding over 40 years ago," says Alan Hearty, a litigation partner in the Century City office of Allen Matkins. "As a native of Ireland, I am proud to serve on its Los Angeles Regional Advisory Board, and it was a tremendous honor for me to host Minister Griffin, Vice Counsel General Callahan and all of the other distinguished guests in our firm's Downtown Los Angeles office."
Alan Hearty was raised and educated in Ireland where he attended University College Dublin and graduated magna cum laude. He is licensed to practice law in California and New York and maintains strong relationships with the Irish-American community throughout the United States. He has received multiple professional awards over the course of his career, including the prestigious 2010 Irish Legal 100 Award, which he received in person from the Irish Ambassador to the United States. In March 2016, Hearty was officially honored by the City of Los Angeles in a special ceremony at City Hall for his efforts in promoting the Irish-American community in Southern California.
