Allen Matkins has helped its client SoLa Impact form several social impact investment funds. The new funds being formed would acquire and develop multifamily and mixed-use projects in and adjacent to opportunity zones across the U.S. SoLa has pledged to donate 13% of profits from these funds to building affordable housing in minority communities. Allen Matkins and SoLa Impact previously collaborated to form impact and opportunity investment funds to develop affordable housing projects in South Los Angeles and acquire and develop the Beehive business campus for emerging minority businesses located in South Los Angeles.
In addition, Allen Matkins has pledged financial support for SoLa I CAN, and Allen Matkins attorneys have committed to providing pro bono assistance to SoLa businesses supported by the SoLa I CAN Foundation and guidance to students that aspire to be business professionals.
The firm has also created the Allen Matkins Foundation, which will facilitate donations in support of minority scholarships and diversity and inclusion initiatives for communities in which the firm operates.
"We’re excited to partner with our client SoLa Impact in taking meaningful action to help local and diverse communities in need," says Allen Matkins managing partner Jeff Patterson. "The SoLa I CAN Foundation has done remarkable work in inspiring and helping South Los Angeles youth with a variety of programs, and our attorneys are grateful that we have the opportunity to contribute to these initiatives and make a difference. The formation of the Allen Matkins Foundation is an extension of this commitment to make a meaningful difference in improving diversity in the legal and business communities."
