Allen Matkins partner, Nick Dubroff was recently quoted in Law360 regarding UC Berkeley’s plans to partner with NASA and developer SKS Partners on build a $2 billion aerospace campus in Silicon Valley. The 36-acre campus will include research and development space, a conference center, multifamily housing, and retail amenities. The project is expected to undergo the California Environmental Quality Act approval process next year.

“Despite weakness in the broader office market, there's no shortage of demand for high-tech hubs, said Nick DuBroff. "We've seen separately, in our own projects, demand for similar types of projects, demand for this type of innovation cluster," he said. "It's a wise use of some channeling of government and university funding." And unlike professional services work, advanced research of the sort likely to be conducted at the Space Center doesn't lend itself to employees staying home, DuBroff said. "It requires a lot of in-person presence," he said. "You can't work from home if you're working in a lab. That's a unique advantage, and that distinguishes it from traditional office space."
