Law360 (September 7, 2016) It takes years of hard work to build a successful real estate practice, but there are some habits attorneys can form early on to help improve their reputations and set them on the right path. Here, Law360 speaks with experts about which habits are most effective and how to instill them. Gary S. McKitterick, a partner in the real estate practice of Allen Matkins Leck Gamble Mallory & Natsis LLP, said attorneys sometimes have a tendency to get bogged down with the legal aspects of a deal, which makes them lose sight of what the clients were looking for in the first place. “The practitioners with the best book of business, and the most respected, are those that actually spend the time to understand their clients' business,” McKitterick said. “I understood early that our jobs are to be counselors and facilitators and to add value,” McKitterick added. “We identify risk but view it in terms of how to solve. At the end of the day, our clients look to us to identify and then solve problems.”
