San Diego, California
Like the rest of California, the San Diego region is struggling with a housing crisis. The City of San Diego, under the leadership of Mayor Kevin Faulconer, has proposed a series of changes to streamline development. As part of this program, come hear from newly appointed Interim Planning Director Alyssa Muto and Allen Matkins attorney Tim Hutter about some of the programs that have been implemented so far and those that are still in the works. In particular, Tim will address how the City has become a leader in incentivizing the creation of mixed-income housing development, and how that benefits San Diego businesses that are striving to attract and retain talent. Alyssa will provide an update on those dreaded four letters – CEQA – and the City’s effort to streamline the process using the recent legislation, community plan updates, and other improvements proposed for the Land Development Code, updated thresholds, and a coming shift from analyzing traffic based on levels of service (LOS) to vehicle miles traveled (VMT).
