SAN FRANCISCO – September 17, 2014 – Allen Matkins, a California-based full service business and real estate law firm, announced today the launch of its "Social Media and Employment Law Blog for California Employers." Written by attorneys Alexander Nestor and Nisha Verma, the blog is intended to provide employers, particularly those in California, with news, commentary and practical pointers regarding the impact social media has on the workplace.

With nearly 90 percent of companies using social media for business purposes, employers are increasingly faced with a myriad of potential reputation and legal pitfalls. Over the past few years, the business world has been inundated with unforeseen and unprecedented scandals relating to social media activity. Misusing social media by way of researching a potential hire's private online activity, posting disparaging remarks about the company or its employees, and peer-to-peer harassment are just a few examples of the risks companies face. Most companies do not provide official social media training, further opening the door to unfortunate situations.
"The ever-growing prevalence of social media in people’s daily lives and the business community means that employers must remain vigilant about the various issues this phenomenon can raise in the workplace," says Alex, a partner in Allen Matkins' San Francisco office and a member of the firm's Labor & Employment Practice Group. "Our blog will endeavor to touch on many of the trending issues associated with social media in the workplace with timely and insightful posts."
Alex represents employers in litigation proceedings in state and federal court, in arbitration, and before administrative agencies on a broad range of employment issues, including discrimination, sexual harassment, retaliation, wrongful discharge, defamation, wage and hour, trade secret misappropriation, and unfair competition claims. Nisha is an attorney in Allen Matkins' Orange County office and represents clients in a variety of labor and employment matters, including discrimination, retaliation, sexual harassment, disability, and wrongful termination cases.
