We will discuss the top five ways to reduce employment risk for California-based companies, including avoiding overtime class actions, non-solicitation/non-competition issues, and best practices for statutorily-required anti-harassment training.
· GREENHOUSE GASES AND SOIL GASES
There are always new developments in the environmental field affecting California businesses. We will discuss:
(1) The November ballot includes a voter initiative, Proposition 23, to suspend the implementation of AB32, which requires major reductions of greenhouse gas emissions in California. What happens to businesses if voters approve this proposition? What happens if they don't?
(2) Contaminated groundwater can create contaminated vapors that rise through the soil and can seep into occupied building spaces through holes and cracks in foundations. This phenomenon, called "vapor intrusion," is a serious regulatory concern, and is becoming an increasingly serious concern for businesses. We'll review the latest developments.
