The intrusion of contaminated vapors into buildings that affect indoor air quality is being more closely examined. The testing of soil gas vapors is becoming a routine part of the environmental assessment related to financing of commercial property if the property has history of being used for industrial uses. If there are vapors, the remedy for existing commercial buildings includes: retrofitting a sub-slab venting system and increased indoor air ventilation. For new buildings, an impermeable barrier can be installed before construction.
