Tim is a partner in the San Francisco office and a member of the Real Estate practice group. He serves as a strategic legal and business advisor for developers, owner-operators, real estate private equity funds, family offices, institutional capital providers, and other entities in a wide range of real estate transactions, including acquisitions, sales, acting on behalf of borrowers in the financing of commercial properties, representing landlords and tenants in the leasing of office buildings, shopping centers, and industrial and retail spaces, the negotiation and formation of joint ventures, and advising on the operation and management of real estate portfolios across the country. Tim has also advised clients on the purchase and sale of distressed notes, the assumption of existing loans secured by real property, and the defeasance of securitized loans.
Tim’s practice spans all asset classes and product types, with a focus on multifamily apartment complexes, shopping centers, office buildings, mixed-use properties, and industrial buildings. He works on transactions across the United States, and he is licensed to practice in both California and New York.
Certain clients look to Tim as their outside general counsel on a broad range of matters related to their real estate and business. He regularly represents a diverse group of clients, including Ballast Investments, Hamilton Zanze & Company, the Onni Group, and Tishman Speyer. Tim’s clients appreciate his practical approach to getting complicated deals done. He is known as a timely and creative problem solver. Clients also utilize Tim for introductions within his network to capital providers, lenders, brokers, title companies, environmental consultants, public relations firms, and other third-party service providers.
Since joining Allen Matkins Tim has served in several leadership positions at the firm, including as a member of the Partner Selection Committee, the Associate Committee, and the Associate Compensation Committee. Tim is also active in his community. He has served on the Board of Trustees for the Berkeley Rose Waldorf School since 2022, and he recently led the BRWS Site Committee in connection with the school’s off-market purchase of a new campus in the Piedmont Avenue neighborhood in Oakland, California.
Prior to joining Allen Matkins, Tim spent several years in the Banking & Finance group at a global law firm, where he represented several of the largest institutional balance sheet lenders in the United States in their commercial real estate finance transactions. He started his career in New York City working in distressed debt restructurings and loan workouts.
