LOS ANGELES – June 8, 2016 – Allen Matkins, a California-based full service real estate and business law firm, announced today that real estate attorney Stephen N. Etheredge in its Los Angeles office, real estate attorney Julie K. Hoffman in its Century City office, and land use attorney Michelle Moore McDermott in its San Francisco office have been elected to the firm partnership. The election is effective as of July 1, 2016.

Stephen focuses his practice on complex real estate transactions, with significant experience in acquisitions and dispositions, real estate-related finance, joint venture formation, and leasing in connection with various raw-land, multifamily residential, office, industrial and mixed-use projects. He has also assisted clients on issues involving distressed debt, restructuring and loan workouts, as well as land use and development matters, including the entitlement process and compliance with general plans and zoning ordinances.
Some of Stephen’s recent transactions include representing the buyer of a 300,000 square foot Class A office project, representing the developer in the acquisition, construction and sale of an industrial warehouse park, and representing the buyer of a 400-unit multifamily apartment project. Stephen was named a Super Lawyers Northern California Rising Star in 2015.
Julie represents purchasers and sellers in the negotiation and documentation of commercial real estate transactions for office, residential and industrial real property, including note purchases and subsequent foreclosure or deed-in-lieu of foreclosure processes. Her practice also includes the preparation and negotiation of commercial, industrial and retail leases of projects throughout the West Coast, including build-to-suit projects for clients ranging from entrepreneurial individuals to real estate investment trusts and other highly sophisticated institutional investors. Some of her notable recent successes include representing Pembroke Real Estate in its purchase of 140 New Montgomery in San Francisco for $284 million, which closed in April 2016. She also represented Kilroy Realty Corp. in its $262 million sale of Santa Fe Summit Phase II in San Diego, one of the top 10 largest real estate deals nationwide in Q1 2016.
Julie is a LEED AP (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional) with a demonstrated knowledge of sustainable building practices and understanding of the LEED rating system. She was previously named to Real Estate Forum’s 30 Under 30 list, has been named a Southern California Super Lawyer every year since 2009, and in 2015 she was named an Outstanding Young Lawyer by the Real Property Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association.
Michelle's practice focuses on project entitlements, CEQA compliance, green buildings, military base re-use, and renewable energy. Her clients are a mix of real estate developers, large corporations, and small businesses throughout California, with a significant amount of projects in the San Francisco Bay Area and Silicon Valley. Michelle has assisted clients with the land use entitlement and CEQA process for a variety of projects including office buildings, retail developments, hospitals, transit oriented developments, multifamily housing and storage facilities.
Michelle is also a LEED AP (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional) and she has assisted clients in compliance with state and local green building requirements. She is a member of International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and Urban Land Institute (ULI).
