San Diego Partners Heather Riley and Elizabeth Thompson were named 2024 Women of Influence in Law by the San Diego Business Journal, which honors outstanding female attorneys blazing their own trail in the region.
Heather has worked on some of San Diego’s most significant land use projects. Her work has helped shape the community her family calls home and has increased housing production across the region. She is at the forefront of the housing crisis dialogue, working with the Building Industry Association of San Diego, the City of San Diego and the County of San Diego to develop solutions that are practical and defensible. Her efforts resulted in a published appellate decision that codified density bonus law up and down the state and has been cited by regulators and applicants alike in their ongoing push to speed up market-rate and affordable housing production.
Elizabeth is a real estate lawyer who advises a broad range of clients on the negotiation and structuring of complex joint ventures in connection with the acquisition, disposition, and development of all asset types. Her perspective practicing in-house for companies ranging from a start-up to a global NYSE-listed life sciences REIT provides her with unique insight on client needs. Within the San Diego community, Elizabeth is involved in education-focused outreach, providing pro bono legal services to a non-profit educational institution and serving as a mentor to law students.
