Opportunity Zone Funds offer special tax benefits for qualified investments in real estate and in businesses that are located in federally designated “Opportunity Zones.” Most notably, investors may wait until 2026 to pay tax on gain from an asset that has already been sold, and some investors might also be able to reduce their tax liability by 10-15%. In addition, an investor may sell its investment in an Opportunity Zone Fund tax-free if the investor satisfies a 10-year holding requirement.
This tax program was created in 2017, and Allen Matkins has been at the forefront of structuring, implementing, and advising Opportunity Zone Funds for various asset classes. Our clients have included fund sponsors, real estate developers, institutional and private investors, and family offices. We have closed over $1B of Opportunity Zone Funds and affiliated entities, and we advise on post-closing operations, transactions, and restructurings.
