California Corporate Law (calcorporatelaw.com) is written by Keith Paul Bishop, a corporate and securities attorney and partner in the Orange County office of Allen Matkins. The blog covers California securities laws and regulations, corporate governance, the California Department of Corporations, the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS), the California Secretary of State, and pending legislation and rulemaking, as well as other pertinent topics.
"California Corporate Law is for anyone interested in the latest on corporate and securities laws from a California perspective," said Bishop, an avid writer who has already contributed dozens of posts to the blog in anticipation of its official launch. "I've found it to be an ideal outlet for sharing some of the things I've learned as a securities and financial services regulator and in more than twenty years of practice."
Bishop has held several significant California government positions including Commissioner of Corporations for the State of California (1996-1997); Deputy Secretary for Business Regulations and General Counsel to the California Business Transportation and Housing Agency (1993-1996); and Interim Savings and Loan Commissioner for the State of California (1993-1996). In 1991, he was appointed by the Rules Committee of the California Senate to the California Senate Commission on Corporate Governance, Shareholder Rights and Securities Transactions.
For the last several years, Bishop has served as practice consultant to the leading treatise on California's securities laws, Practice Under the California Securities Laws; has been a regular contributor to Broc Romanek's blog at TheCorporateCounsel.net; and has written articles and commentary that have appeared in the Los Angeles Lawyer, Daily Journal, The Recorder, Insights, Sacramento Bee, Orange County Register, Orange County Business Journal, Chapman Law Review, and Business Law News, among others. He also is an adjunct professor of law at Chapman University School of Law where he has taught classes in advanced topics in corporate governance.
