Law360 (October 19, 2017) A California federal judge on Tuesday threw out most of a defunct taxi company’s claims that Uber Technologies Inc. is running an unlicensed, unregulated taxi service that unfairly competes with “authentic” taxis, but asked the parties to provide more information about the claims that remain. In an eight-page order, Judge White permanently dismissed all of the cab company’s claims based on allegations that Uber is using de facto taxis, a decision that disposed of all the company’s claims except those involving California’s unfair competition and unfair business practices laws. Uber is represented by Marshall C. Wallace and Marissa M. Dennis of Allen Matkins Leck Gamble Mallory & Natsis LLP.
